Issues: K-12 Education

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today on National School Choice Week:

"I am proud to support National School Choice Week and celebrate the success of increased educational choices for parents and students in Arizona and across the nation. I believe that education is the key to building a strong and competitive workforce in today's global economy. But I also believe that students are best served when parents are given control of their child's education -- not federal bureaucrats. This is evident all across Arizona, where students have the opportunity to attend some of the best charter schools in the nation. According to the Arizona Charter School Association, over 190,000 Arizona students have access to more than 600 charter schools, including Basis Charter Schools in Scottsdale and Tucson, the first- and third-ranked charter schools in America according to U.S. News & World Report. While I am proud of the success we are seeing in Arizona, more needs to be done to expand educational options for students to ensure they have the best opportunities to succeed."
